Hello, I’m Cristina Serna, a Licensed Masters Social Worker. My passion for mental health began in 2012 during my time serving in the United States Navy, especially while stationed overseas in Yokosuka, Japan. As a first responder in a Forward Deployed Naval Forces (FDNF) setting, I witnessed firsthand the mental strain on military personnel. Later, as a supervisor in Rota, Spain, I saw how the stigma surrounding mental health in the military affected my peers. This experience shaped my commitment to helping others address trauma and mental health challenges.
Throughout my career, I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, helping individuals in crisis. My experience includes providing support to women at a shelter, working with complex cases at CPS, and offering individual and family therapy to support healing. My most fulfilling work has been with organizations partnering with law enforcement and first responders, where I found a culture and sense of community that resonated with my own experiences.
At Finding Freedom Therapy, I specialize in helping first responders, military personnel, and veterans. Trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and fluent in both English and Spanish, I am passionate about helping individuals overcome their struggles and continue their important work.
