Hello! my name is Mwale Kapande. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy
Associate, Licensed Baccalaureate Social Worker, and Doctoral student in Marriage and Family Therapy. I also serve in the U.S. Army Reserve. I have spent more than a decade working in behavioral health, crisis intervention, and military family support. Over those years, I have sat with individuals, couples, and families going through some of the hardest moments of their lives, communication breakdowns, emotional disconnection, grief, trauma, and the kind of losses that do not always have a name. I believe that every person is shaped by the relationships and family systems they grew up in, and that understanding those patterns is often the first step toward changing them.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Mount Mercy University and my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northcentral University. I am currently completing my Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy at National University.
My clinical background includes hospital settings, community mental health, crisis response, and the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic in Dallas, where I currently work directly with active duty service members, Reservists, and National Guard members across all branches of the military and their families. That experience has shaped me as a clinician more than anything else. I learned what it means to earn trust with a population that does not give it easily, and I learned that the right therapeutic relationship can open doors that nothing else can.
I work with individuals, dating couples, premarital partners, married couples, and families. Whether you are trying to build something stronger, work through something painful, or simply understand yourself and your relationships better, there is a place for you here. In my work I draw on two main approaches, Emotionally Focused Therapy and Structural Family Therapy, both rooted in Family Systems theory.
I am also bilingual in English and Bemba, which allows me to connect more authentically with immigrant families and communities navigating life in a new country.
Mwale is a contractor and is supervised by Andrew Ahles, LMFT-S.
